FIELD: electrolysis of rare-earth metals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tungsten electrode for electrolysis of salt melt for production of rare-earth metals and method of its production. Tungsten electrode comprises an open tungsten shell and a copper alloy housing. Note here that said housing is located inside open tungsten shell. Between the side wall of the copper alloy housing and the open tungsten shell, a tungsten buffer layer is provided, which has thickness of 3 to 8 mm and density of 12 to 14 g/cm3, note here that the bottom of the copper alloy housing touches the inner bottom of the exposed tungsten shell.
EFFECT: inventions make it possible to obtain a tungsten electrode with low weight, with good electrical conductivity, while reducing power consumption of the tungsten electrode.
