The mechanical properties of the material are determined by experiment: tensile strength, yield strength, relative elongation at a fixed strain rate and test temperature. Based on these data, the specific work of crack formation is determined using the formula.
EFFECT: when studying metal structures operating under loads and strain rates up to destruction, the ability to base a forecast on the operational reliability of the selected material on the basis of a quantitative assessment of the energy parameter – the specific work of crack formation.
