FIELD: radio meteorology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio meteorology and can be used to calibrate weather surveillance radar (WSR). Reflectance values are determined by means of radar probing of clouds using a verified WSR and a reference WSR, calibrated by a standard target method. Three-dimensional processing of radar signals is performed, the results of which are used to obtain survey files and three-dimensional matrices. Said survey files contain averaged and digitized radar data in a polar coordinate system. Said three-dimensional matrices consist of two-dimensional matrices of horizontal sections of the probing zone at different levels of heights in a Cartesian coordinate system for the reference and verified WSR. A line equidistant from both WSRs is then determined. Survey files are selected for both WSRs with atmosphere probing time not exceeding 1 minute. Reflectivity from clouds for points belonging to a line equidistant from both WSRs is compared for all columns of three-dimensional matrices. A database with cases of deviations of reflectivity values for both WSRs is formed. Calibration of the verified WSR is carried out taking into account the value of the constant of this WSR before calibration.

EFFECT: high accuracy and efficiency of calibrating a WSR of radar network.
