FIELD: acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: method of converting a digital raster image into an audio signal consists in that digital data of a two-dimensional array of pixels of an arbitrary static image or a separate frame of a video image is entered into the random access memory of a microprocessor system, digital data of the array are processed, the obtained signal is reproduced in the form of sound vibrations. Two-dimensional array of pixels is divided into rows and columns of pixels so that the width of each row of the array is equal to 1 pixel, and the width of the columns of the array increases linearly as the centre of the array is displaced to the left and to the right. Amplitude of the sound wave is calculated in proportion to the average brightness of pixels of the intersection of a row and a column, and the frequency of the sound wave is proportional to the coordinate of the position of the intersection on the vertical axis. Sums of sound waves are recorded in the audio file successively from the centre to the periphery; during playback of the audio file, loudness in the left and right channels is reduced according to a linear law.

EFFECT: reduced image resolution and fewer computing resources.
