FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing 2-iodine-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, which can be used for synthesis of organometallic frameworks. Method consists in the fact that first used uncoloured bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate are washed in soap solution under a stream of warm water, then with ethanol, dried in air for 12 hours and cut into 1.0–5.0 mm fragments. 7.17–12.46 wt.% of potassium iodide is dissolved separately while stirring in mixture of 61.87–68.59 wt.% sulfuric acid, 10.94–12.13 wt.% nitric acid and 1.40–5.07 wt.% acetic acid for 30 minutes. 9.66–10.71 wt.% of fragments of used uncoloured bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate are added to the obtained solution and the reaction mass is held for 8 hours at temperature of 70 °C. Then the reaction mass is cooled in air to 25 °C and diluted with distilled water, filtered using a Schott filter with a pore diameter of 16 mcm, washed with distilled water, and then with an aqueous solution containing 10 wt. % sodium thiosulphate. Obtained precipitate is dried at temperature of 80 °C under vacuum for 12 hours.

EFFECT: method of producing 2-iodine-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid by chemical processing of used uncoloured bottles from polyethylene terephthalate.
