SUBSTANCE: invention relates to diagnosis or determination of the risk of developing cognitive impairment, regardless of its genesis, in a subject. Disclosed is a method for diagnosing or determining the risk of developing a cognitive impairment representing dementia in a subject. Levels of expression of biomarkers DRP1 and S100 in blood lymphocytes and levels of expression of biomarkers of beta-amyloid, NF-kB, tau-protein, claudin and S100 in buccal epithelium are determined. Statistically significant increase of DRP1 protein and S100 protein expression in blood lymphocytes and reduction of beta-amyloid, NF-kB, tau-protein, claudin and S100 protein expression in buccal epithelium compared to reference levels of expression of said biomarkers in a subject without dementia indicates the presence or risk of developing a cognitive impairment.
EFFECT: invention provides reliable diagnosis or determination of the risk of developing cognitive impairment.
