SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol generation device. An apparatus for generating an aerosol comprising a cartridge with an elongated injection space, a housing connected to the cartridge, a plurality of sensors and a controller. Plurality of sensors includes a capacitive sensor located in the housing next to the elongated space for insertion in the cartridge, and a proximity sensor comprising a sensor light source configured to emit light and a photodiode configured to respond to light falling thereon. Controller is configured to determine the presence of a stick in the elongated space for insertion based on the signal, received from at least one of the plurality of sensors, and determining whether the stick inserted into the elongated space for insertion was in use based on the signal level of the capacitive sensor.

EFFECT: enabling determination of the presence of a stick in the cartridge, as well as more accurate information about it, in particular whether the inserted stick has been in use.
