FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used for choosing a therapeutic approach to the unfavourable clinical course of stage 3 of active retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). A digital image of the patient’s central retina is obtained and the values of two angles are determined: angle with centre in optic disc between vascular arcades at level of macular zone and angle with centre in optic disc between vascular arcades at the level of doubled distance from optic disc to macula. Obtained values are substituted into the equation Pr=6.6513+0.0610*F2-17.009*(F2/F1), where Pr is the prediction of the type of treatment; F1 is value of angle with centre in optic disc between vascular arcades at level of macular zone, F2 is value of angle with centre in optic disc between vascular arcades at the level of doubled distance from optic disc to macula. If Pr<1.5695, the patient undergoes laser treatment – transpupillary laser coagulation of the retina. If Pr>1.5695, the patient undergoes surgical treatment – primary vitrectomy.
EFFECT: method provides the well-grounded selection of the known effective method of treating the unfavourable clinical course of stage 3 of active ROP by determining the angles of retinal vascular arcades by digital morphometry.
