SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding of a moving image. Method comprises obtaining a bit stream for a video sequence, obtaining a first indicator value according to the bit stream, wherein the first indicator represents the maximum number of motion vector prediction candidates, MVP, for merging, obtaining the value of the second indicator according to the bit stream, wherein the second indicator represents whether the geometric separation based motion compensation is included for said video sequence, and parsing the third indicator value from the bitstream when the first indicator value exceeds the threshold value, and when the second indicator value is equal to the preset value, wherein the third indicator represents the maximum number of candidates for the geometric division fusion mode subtracted from the value of the first indicator.
EFFECT: improved compression ratio with minimum loss in image quality.
