FIELD: foundry.
SUBSTANCE: method of making a cast-iron roll for a rolling mill includes applying a heat-insulating coating of a zircon paint with thickness of 1.0–1.5 mm on the inner surface of the mould, white cast iron is poured into mould rotating about horizontal axis, billet is cooled, extracted from mould, and the working surface of the roll is subjected to turning process to the allowance depth. Prior to pouring white cast iron, dry quartz sand with layer thickness of 3–4 mm and a layer of alloying composition are applied onto the refractory paint during rotation of the mould. Alloying composition contains 54 pts. wt. bronze chips BrAZh 9-4, 45 pts. wt. copper powder M2, 1 pts. wt. foundry graphite GL-1, and 2 pts. wt. sodium tetraborate.
EFFECT: simplification and reduction of labour intensity of roll machining at improvement of quality of its working surface and preservation of its operational reliability.
