FIELD: wireless communication.

SUBSTANCE: at a base station in a wireless communication system for a given number of Np used digital ports, determining a CSI-RS structure consisting of resource elements, where each resource element in the frequency domain is determined by a subcarrier and in the time domain – by an OFDM symbol. For the CSI-RS structure: setting a group of NPRB adjacent physical resource blocks (PRB) in the frequency domain and a group of NTTI adjacent time slots in the time domain; setting the number of NCDM CDM groups; CDM-group is determined and frequency-time location of NCDM CDM-groups is specified. CSI-RS structure is repeating across PRB groups.

EFFECT: provides support for the required number of digital ports (up to 256) with the possibility of systematic formation of CDM-groups with their frequency-time arrangement by groups of PRB/slots, with greater flexibility in terms of allocating frequency-time resources to separate CDM-groups and with possibility of nested scaling of CSI-RS ports in a transparent manner for a base station and a user device.
