FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, particularly, to production of powders of sixth group metal carbides. Heating of Cr, Mo, W or Cr2O3, MoO2, MoO3, WO2, WO2.9, WO3 in an inert gas atmosphere to temperature of 600–850 °C. Then, thermal treatment is carried out at this temperature in carbon-containing gas in the form of a mixture of inert gas in amount of 75–97 vol.% and vapour of organic liquid in amount of 3–25 vol.%.
EFFECT: reduced average particle size of carbide powder, wider range of obtained carbides and safety of the method due to exclusion of use of hydrogen.
