FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy and can be used in the production of WC tungsten carbide used in the manufacture of carbide materials for high-performance metal cutting tools and other wear-resistant products. To obtain a powder based on WC tungsten carbide with particle size d50, not exceeding 200 nm, a homogeneous powder mixture of nano-sized tungsten or tungsten oxide and nanosized carbon, taken in an amount exceeding the stoichiometric carbon content in tungsten carbide by 10–70 wt.%, is prepared. Heat treatment of said mixture in an electric furnace at a temperature of 1,400–1,600 °C is carried out in hydrogen and / or inert gases, such as nitrogen, argon, followed by binding and removal of excess carbon.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain tungsten carbide with a reduced defectiveness of the crystal structure and a reduced content of impurities.
