SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to a control device for an electronic aerosol delivery system, an electronic aerosol delivery system, a method for operating an electronic aerosol delivery system control device, and a server for transmitting control information to control devices. The electronic aerosol delivery system control device is configured to receive a replaceable component for forming the electronic aerosol delivery system, and includes: a communication interface for external communication with the electronic aerosol delivery system; a memory configured to store a set of identifiers; and a control system configured to: receive control information from a remote server via a communication interface; updating the set of stored identifiers based on the control information received from the remote server; obtaining an identifier from a replaceable component inserted into the control device; comparing the received identifier with a set of stored identifiers; and performing a control action with respect to the electronic aerosol delivery system depending on the result of said comparison, wherein the device is configured so that if the received identifier does not match any of the stored identifiers, then it provides a limited functionality of the electronic aerosol delivery system compared to the functionality available to the electronic aerosol supply system if the received identifier matches one of the stored identifiers, and if the received identifier does not match any of the stored identifiers, the control action is the default action.
