SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image processing and, in particular, to prediction for division into parts and more specifically to calculation of distance to sampling for modes of geometric division. Disclosed is an encoding method implemented by an encoding device, wherein the method comprises steps of obtaining a current block angle parameter value; obtaining the width of the current block and current block height value; calculating the value of the ratio between the width value and the height value; calculating distance to sample for sampling in current block, in accordance with first value; obtaining a prediction value for a sample in the current block, in accordance with the value of the distance to the sample.

EFFECT: high degree of compression with minimal or no effect on image quality.
