PLANT AND METHOD FOR SYNTHESIS OF METHANOL USING RENEWABLE ENERGY Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC B01J19/00 C07C29/151 C07C31/04

Abstract RU 2827015 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a methanol synthesis apparatus, as well as a method of producing methanol using said apparatus. Plant includes: a feedstock pretreatment section configured to perform pretreatment of a feed stream containing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, biogas, methane, ethane, propane, butane, naphtha boiling range components, coal, petroleum coke or combinations thereof; section for producing synthesis gas (syngas), comprising one or more reactors selected from pre-reforming reactors, steam reforming reactors, dry reforming reactors, partial oxidation reactors, autothermal reforming reactors, gasifiers or combinations thereof, and configured to produce a syngas synthesis product stream containing synthesis gas formed from the feed stream; a methanol synthesis section comprising one or more methanol synthesis reactors configured to obtain a synthesis product containing methanol; and a methanol purification section configured to remove at least one component from the synthesis product to obtain a purified methanol product. At that, the installation consumes an amount of electrical energy equal to 20 MW or more, the amount of CO2 produced per ton of methanol is less than 0.3 tons of CO2 per ton of methanol, and useful specific energy consumption is less than 34 GJ/t of methanol. In addition, the plant is configured in such a way that more than 50 % of the useful energy consumed by the methanol synthesis plant, section for preliminary treatment of raw materials, section of synthesis gas generation, section of methanol synthesis, section of methanol purification or their combination is provided with electricity.

EFFECT: development of improved systems and methods of chemical synthesis, as a result of using which a certain amount of fuels is reduced or excluded, especially fossil fuels, burnt for energy production, as well as increasing energy efficiency and/or reducing the amount of emissions, such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, produced by the chemical synthesis plant.
