SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to chemistry of biologically active polymers. Described is a copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone and optionally methylated vinylpyridine, represented by general formula (I):

in which pyridine fragments are completely methyl quaternized with methyl iodide, R denotes hydrogen or methyl, content of q monomer links Q is 25–90 mol.%, content v of monomer links V is 75–10 mol.% provided that q+v=100 mol.%, viscosity-average molecular weight Mμ is equal to 20–310 kDa.
EFFECT: endowing copolymers based on N-vinylpyrrolidone and optionally methylated vinylpyridines with antiviral properties with respect to influenza A virus, high solubility of the disclosed copolymers in aqueous weakly acidic and neutral media.
