FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry, nanotechnology and environmental protection. First, coke is treated with an oxidising agent – ammonium persulphate, in sulphuric acid with concentration from 98 to 100%. Oxidised coke is then treated with an aqueous solution of an etching reagent. Etching agent used is hydrogen peroxide at a treatment temperature of 90 to 100 °C and weight ratio of hydrogen peroxide to oxidised coke from 4:1 to 5:1 in terms of anhydrous components, after which the obtained solution is evaporated. Alternatively, the etching agent used is potassium hydroxide at a treatment temperature of 160 to 250 °C with subsequent dissolution of obtained reaction mixture in water, precipitation of carbon nanoparticles by adding mineral acid to acidic pH, separating them by filtration, washing with water and acidified nitric acid to pH 2.5-3.
EFFECT: disclosed method of producing carbon nanoparticles is easily scaled and excludes release of nitric acid and toxic nitrogen oxides.
