FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of processing glycerol and specifically to a method for liquid-phase dehydration of glycerol into acetol. Method involves carrying out 3-hour process in a reactive distillation apparatus in a mixture of glycerol and 5 wt.% catalyst, stirred at rate of 700 rpm and heated to 180-240 °C. Catalyst used is Cu2O without a carrier and glycerol with concentration of 99.3 wt.% is used. Process is carried out in a continuous mode at a vacuum pressure of 2.9 kPa with nitrogen bubbling of 150 cm3/min and a supported load of the substrate on catalyst of 18.2 ggl/(gcat)⋅h).

EFFECT: increasing selectivity of acetol formation to 54.6-85.2 % and simplifying the process.
