METHOD FOR MEASURING OPACITY OF EXHAUST GASES WITH AN AUTOMATIC DEVICE OF SPEED MODE OF A DIESEL ENGINE Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC G01M15/10

FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for measurement of exhaust gas opacity of diesel engines during operation of motor vehicles. Method of measuring opacity of exhaust gases by automatic device of diesel speed mode consists in using opacimeter and in creation of six consecutive cycles of free acceleration of the engine crankshaft by uniform movement of the fuel pedal for 0.5-1 s to the stop, holding pedal (4) in this position for 2-3 s and releasing pedal (4). After that in 8-10 s resumption of cycles follows. Automatic device of diesel engine speed mode with programmable microcontroller (2), servo drive (3) with control of rotation angle of its shaft is installed, and vehicle is prepared for measurement of opacity. Initially, the tester-diagnostician installs lever (5) on servo drive shaft (3) with the possibility of contact with lever (5) of electronic accelerator pedal (4) of the vehicle. Further, pedal (4) is uniformly displaced according to the generated command signals of programmed microcontroller (3) for measuring opacity. Microcontroller (3) for measuring opacity is preliminarily programmed to perform standard six consecutive cycles of free acceleration of the crankshaft of the engine by cycles of measuring opacity of exhaust gases of a diesel engine. Program is recorded into programmed microcontroller (3) for measuring opacity, having previously connected it via a USB interface to a computer, using the Arduino IDE program, which is intended for creating and loading programs on Arduino microcontrollers in the C++ programming language. Further, an opacimeter probe is installed and communication is programmed through Wi-Fi module (7) for transmitting the initial command signal of the beginning of opacity measurement, from a computer over a wireless local area network, based on IEEE 802.11 standards, to start an automatic device for programmed microcontroller (3) for measuring opacity according to the program. Then the tester-diagnostician monitors creation of cycles of free acceleration of the engine crankshaft, registers the value on the opacimeter display and enters into the table the final statistical results of experimental measurements of opacity for a sufficient set of observations.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining smoke content of exhaust gases.
