Method for controlling the operation of a beverage preparation device comprising a brewing chamber configured to provide a beverage brewing process, wherein the brewing chamber has a beverage outlet configured to release the brewed beverage at the end of the beverage brewing process, includes performing a rinsing procedure, wherein the brewing chamber is rinsed with water before or after the beverage brewing process, and during the rinsing procedure, rinsing water is fed into the brewing chamber, and at a later stage, rinsing water is drained from the brewing chamber in a position on the brewing chamber different from the position of the beverage outlet. Said position on the brewing chamber, different from the position of the beverage outlet, is a position upstream on the brewing chamber, as seen in the direction of the water and the brewed beverage through the beverage preparation device associated with the beverage brewing process.

EFFECT: more flexible use of the beverage preparation machine without the risk of mixing beverages with rinsing water, without the need to add components to the beverage preparation device.
