FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to a method of producing 3-(quinolin-2-ylmethylene)isoindolin-1-one. Method consists in mixing a mixture of phthalimide, quinaldine and zinc oxide at temperature of 245 °C with subsequent cooling and introduction of hydrochloric acid and is characterized by that mixing is carried out for 1-2 hours, and after adding hydrochloric acid, alkaline hydrolysis of unreacted substances is carried out with 5-10 % sodium hydroxide solution for 30 minutes while boiling, followed by extraction of the end product by filtration and washing with water.
EFFECT: shorter synthesis time and exclusion of the column chromatography step for purifying the product.
