FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing nanopowders of tungsten borides and can be used in powder metallurgy, other industries, including production of hard alloys for cutting tools and drill bits. Method involves preparation of a mixture of powders with ratio of 70–85 wt.% tungsten trioxide (WO3) and 15–30 wt.% boron metal with purity of 99.7% or amorphous boron with purity of 94%, which is ground to obtain particle size of 50–100 mcm. Reduction of tungsten and its synthesis with boron to obtain nanoparticles of tungsten borides W-B in the form of W2B, WB is carried out while feeding and spraying a mixture of powder into the thermal plasma zone of a plasma installation with microwave radiation and temperature of 8,000–9,000 K, formed by flow of inert plasma-forming gas at outlet of reaction tube of plasma installation with microwave radiation. Tungsten boride nanoparticles are obtained during their crystallisation and deposition on inner surfaces of the synthesis chamber of a plasma installation with microwave radiation.
EFFECT: obtaining nanopowders of tungsten borides, in which particles have a dendritic crystal lattice, and boron atoms fill all six internodes.
