SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to veterinary pharmaceutics, specifically to a bolus for administration to a ruminant, the use of a methane inhibitor and a carrier in the bolus to reduce methane production in ruminants or to reduce methane release to ruminant animals, as well as to a method for making said bolus. Bolus for administration to a ruminant, comprising a nucleus comprising a methane inhibitor intended for administration to a ruminant in a mixture with a carrier, and a coating which covers at least a portion of the nucleus, wherein the bolus is designed to release the methane inhibitor through the coating for a predetermined period of time, and the methane inhibitor is a haloform selected from bromoform, chloroform, iodoform and combinations thereof. Application of methane inhibitor and carrier in bolus for reduction of methane formation in ruminant animals or for reduction of methane release in ruminant animals. Method of making said bolus involves forming a shell having a cavity, forming a nucleus containing a methane inhibitor, and transferring the nucleus into the cavity.

EFFECT: said group of inventions enables to obtain an agent which increases productivity of animals as a result of reduced formation of methane.
