FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to simulation of the Doppler effect, in particular to methods and devices for controlling simulation of the Doppler effect, for example, for use in virtual reality or augmented reality environments. Disclosed is a method of simulating the Doppler effect when rendering audio content for medium with 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF) on the user side. In particular, the method may include obtaining values of a first parameter relating to one or more first parameters indicating an allowable range of values for modifying the pitch index. Method may further include obtaining a second parameter value relating to a second parameter indicating the desired intensity of the Doppler effect to be simulated. Method may also include determining a pitch index modification value based on the relative velocity between the listener and the sound source in the audio content and the values of the first and second parameters using a predetermined pitch index modification function. In particular, a predetermined pitch index modification function may have first and second parameters and may be a function for mapping relative velocities to pitch index modification values. Method may include rendering an audio source based on a pitch index modification value.
EFFECT: creation of an efficient and flexible mechanism for performing simulation of the Doppler effect when rendering audio content for medium with 6DoF, taking into account the possibility of controlling the values of modifying the pitch index, which represent the desired intensity of the Doppler effect, which improves the perceived listening experience.
