FIELD: railway construction.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway track superstructure, particularly, to devices used in electric track circuits. Rail butt electrically insulating joint comprises an interrail gasket made of electrically insulating material and located between the ends of the joined rails, butt metal pads located on both sides of the joined rails, each of which has electrically insulated section conjugated with one rail and non-electrically insulated section conjugated with the other rail, as well as two groups of transverse through holes for arrangement of fasteners in each group of through holes, providing coupling between themselves of butt metal pads through the neck of the corresponding joint rail. Each butt metal pad is made with a dielectric coating on an electrically insulated section having a larger length, but a smaller cross-sectional area. Besides, its side surfaces in longitudinal direction have steps, and dielectric coating is made flush with side surfaces having a large cross-section area and a smaller length of non-electrically insulated section. An electrically insulated section of one butt metal pad and a non-electrically insulated section of the other butt metal pad are arranged at the joint on both sides of each rail. Length 1 of the electrically insulated section of the butt metal pad satisfies the relationship (H-d)/2>1-L/2>h/2, where L is the length of the butt metal pad, d is diameter of transverse through holes, H is the distance between adjacent transverse through holes of different groups, h is the thickness of the rail spacer. In the dielectric coating of the electrically insulated section of the butt metal pad there is a control through hole ending on its surface for possibility of checking for electrical breakdown and protected by a sealant from moisture ingress.
EFFECT: possibility of checking metal pads of an insulating joint for electric breakdown without time consuming using a standard tester.
