SUBSTANCE: method comprises: detecting a PSS, wherein the detected PSS specifies a predetermined format of the received one or more SS/PBCH units and/or periodicity of sending one or more SS/PBCH units; considering a predetermined format of one or more SS/PBCH units and/or periodicity of sending one or more SS/PBCH units, detection of a secondary synchronization signal (SSS); and outputting a physical cell identifier based on the detected SSS.

EFFECT: increased flexibility due to possibility of indication and switching of different formats of synchronization signal unit (SS)/physical broadcast channel (PBCH) while simultaneously providing SFN amplification on that part of the SS/PBCH, which is used for such indication, wherein the SFN amplification increases noise immunity of the primary synchronization signal (PSS) and, as a result, reduce the number of erroneous detections of the SS/PBCH unit even when such detection is carried out by user equipment (UE) at cell boundaries.
