FIELD: nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering and can be used in decontamination of radioactive wastes. Most effective method can be used for decontamination of solid radioactive wastes, in particular, wastes of medium and low activity levels, as well as very low level of activity. When decontaminating radioactive wastes, which includes ultrasonic treatment of radioactively contaminated articles with simultaneous electrochemical exposure in an electrolyte medium, a solution of sulphuric acid with concentration of 7-15% is used as a decontaminating solution, wherein electrolyte temperature is maintained in range from 40 to 80 °C, and electrochemical treatment of solid radioactive wastes is carried out at current density of 5-30 A/dm2 with simultaneous application of ultrasonic action with power of ultrasonic field of 10-50 W/l of working electrolyte.
EFFECT: cleaning materials from radioactive contamination for further use and reduction of volumes sent for storage of secondary radioactive wastes.
