FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing sorbents for absorption of oils and oil products and can be used in oil refining, petrochemical, chemical and food industries for purifying water from oil, separating mixtures of oil products and oils with water. Disclosed is a sorbent based on modified cotton fabric, wherein the cotton fabric is modified with 3 wt.% solution of a previously obtained copolymer of glycidyl methacrylate with 2,2,3,3,4,4,4-heptafluorobutyl methacrylate and stearyl methacrylate with a molar ratio of monomer links equal to 1:1:1 in methyl ethyl ketone.

EFFECT: described approach provides cotton fabric with selective wettability: reduced moisture absorption (due to increased hydrophobic and oleophilic properties) with preservation of sorption capacity with respect to oil.
