FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing L-nicotine, involving a substitution reaction of a compound of formula I with N-vinylpyrrolidone in the presence of a base and a reaction solvent and performing decarboxylation in the presence of an acid to obtain a compound of formula II, cyclisation of the compound of formula II in a solvent under the action of a base to obtain myosmine and reducing myosmine to obtain L-nornicotine, followed by methylation of the obtained L-nornicotine to L-nicotine. In the compound of formula IR is C1-C8 alkyl, reduction of myosmine is carried out in the presence of a ligand L2 and a metal catalyst Ir(COD)Cl2, and the methylation reagent is selected from formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, iodomethane and dimethyl sulphate.
EFFECT: providing a method of producing an end product with high purity, which is efficient for large-scale industrial production.
