FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a light-absorbing optical element with a developed working surface and a method for manufacturing thereof for use in light-shielding units of optical devices, protection against illumination and various kinds of spurious radiation in the optical wavelength range. On the working front surface of the light-absorbing optical element, consisting of a cellular material with cells open on one side, and a substrate, a regular structure of protrusions of a given shape is additionally formed, wherein all its surfaces have a light-absorbing coating. Ledges are located on the glued faces of the cellular material, with an indent from rib by 1/4 of the gluing pitch and a pitch equal to or multiple of the gluing pitch. This is achieved by forming the profile of the protrusions at the stage of cutting the glued honeycomb package into blocks using a profiled tool or cutting the honeycomb package along a given trajectory.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a light-absorbing optical element with improved light absorption characteristics in a wide range of azimuths and angles of incidence of beams, with minimal modification of the technology of its manufacturing.
