FIELD: radio engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering and can be used in active radar when detecting and extracting information from responses of a target in conditions of multibeam signal propagation. Disclosed method involves constructing and analysing a histogram of amplitudes of a mixture of signals obtained from the output of a receiving device, determining the unimodal or bimodal type of the initial histogram and calculating a threshold level having the property of dividing the bimodal histogram into two unimodal fragments. Two thresholds are used to detect the beginning and end of the pulse, respectively, located symmetrically to the minimum of the obtained bimodal histogram lying between its maxima.
EFFECT: creation of a method for rapid determination of the threshold level, which enables to separate the useful signal from its reflected copies, which appeared as a result of multipath propagation of the signal.
