SUBSTANCE: aerosol-generating device for use with an aerosol-generating article comprising an aerosol-forming substrate, having a recess for receiving the aerosol-generating article; a heater for heating the aerosol-forming substrate in the aerosol-generating article disposed in the recess; and an odour suppression unit comprising at least one chamber for accommodating at least one odour suppressant substrate for masking or neutralizing odour caused by heating the aerosol-forming substrate; and an air flow path configured to pass air into the odour suppression unit through the air inlet, through the at least one said chamber and output from the air outlet, wherein at least one said chamber is isolated from the recess to prevent passage of air from said chamber into the recess through the aerosol generating device. Aerosol-generating system comprises said aerosol-generating device and at least one odour suppressing substrate located in at least one chamber.
EFFECT: reduction or prevention of unpleasant odours, such as those caused by heating of the aerosol-forming substrate and the ability to control or adjust the odour felt by the user and people around the aerosol generating device.
