SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for verbal identification of a geographic area. Disclosed computer-implemented method of identifying a geographic area includes: creating a layer for a digital geographic map in the form of a grid of square cells of a base size for the entire earth's surface using a system of geocentric coordinates; extraction of map data on geographic features for each created cell from corresponding layers; performing each cell iterative division into four equal square cells; assigning at least two words to cell forming a unique identification phrase; providing a remote computing device with access to the created layer with access to the whole square cell based on geographic coordinates to obtain unique identification phrase or based on a unique identification phrase to obtain the geographical coordinates of this solid square cell.

EFFECT: more accurate identification of geographical areas of different dimensions on the ground for the entire the Earth's surface.
