SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, specifically to ophthalmology and molecular biology, and can be used to assess the effectiveness of brachytherapy of initial and moderate choroidal melanomas. It involves blood sampling, patient’s blood plasma microRNA-27b expression test by real-time PCR and biomicroophthalmoscopic examination of the patients. Expression level of microRNA-27b in healthy individuals and in patients before and after brachytherapy of choroidal melanoma is studied 36 months later. Post-brachytherapy result is compared to the pre-therapeutic result and to a control value obtained in healthy individuals. If observing a decrease of the expression level of microRNA-27b to the control value, as well as the formation of a cicatrix of the irradiated tumour according to the biomicroophthalmoscope examination, the brachytherapy treatment is considered to be effective.

EFFECT: method provides the possibility of evaluating the effectiveness of the organ-preserving treatment of choroidal melanoma – brachytherapy, due to the biomicroophthalmoscope examination of patients and the study of the expression level of microRNA-27b in the blood, which decrease below control values 36 months after the brachytherapy allows both to state the complete formation of the cicatrix of the irradiated tumour, and to exclude the presence of latent metastasis.
