FIELD: medical science.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to endocrinology and diabetology, and can be used for selection of a hypoglycemic therapy for the patients suffering diabetes mellitus with underlying pancreatic exocrine pancreas (EPD) disease. Patient’s blood is sampled for C-peptide and glucose; then patient drinks 200 ml of the specialized liquid alimentation. That is followed by blood sampling for glucose and C-peptide 60 and 120 minutes later. If observing the C-peptide level increasing in 2.7 times and more, the oral antihyperglycemic therapy is used as a monotherapy or a combination. If the test shows an increase of C-peptide in less than 2.7 times in both points, an insulin therapy is prescribed.

EFFECT: method enables the well-timed prescription of the effective and safe hypoglycemic therapy in the patients suffering EPD that in turn enables considerably improving the clinical outcome in the given cohort of patients by a combination of the techniques of the declared invention.
