SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering and can be used in radio monitoring systems for detecting and selecting radio signals with known polarization parameters, as well as in passive polarization radar for detecting and selecting radar signals. Claimed method is based on the radio signal two orthogonal components reception, their quadrature components calculation, the received signal polarization parameters calculation, which are the ellipticity angle and the polarization ellipse inclination angle, and making decision on presence of selected signal, with polarization parameters α0 and γ0, based on integrated use of polarization parameters when meeting conditions α0 ∈ [−α'thr; α'thr], α'lh ≤ α ≤ α'uh and γ'lh ≤ γ ≤ γ'uh, or by value of ellipticity angle when meeting conditions α0 ∉ [−α'thr; α'thr] and αlh ≤ α ≤ αuh.
