FIELD: paper.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a tool for embossing paper with barrier properties, wherein the paper with barrier properties contains paper and a protective layer on one of its sides. Method includes: providing a first embossing system with a first embossing tool and a second embossing tool interacting with the first embossing tool, for embossing paper with barrier properties; providing a male structure on the first embossing tool; providing a matrix structure on the second embossing tool; wherein the matrix structure corresponds to the male structure so that when the paper with barrier properties is embossed, the functionality of the protective layer is maintained. Method also includes embossing paper with barrier properties by inserting paper with barrier properties between first and second embossing tools, applying pressure between the male and matrix structures to press the male structure to the paper side, which is the side of the paper with barrier properties, opposite the side with the protective layer of the paper with barrier properties, and pressing the paper with barrier properties into the matrix structure, wherein the protective layer faces the matrix structure.

EFFECT: thus, the fibrous structure of the paper in the paper with barrier properties is changed due to at least one of the following effects: paper fibers compression, paper fibers compaction; which leads to change in behavior of paper with barrier properties during folding and to preservation of substantially invariable shape of paper with barrier properties during its entire service life.
