FIELD: chemical technology, petroleum-chemical processes. SUBSTANCE: styrene is synthesized by steam-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol fraction containing 28.1% acetophenone in two-step adiabatic reactor in the presence of steam and catalyst with intermediate heating of contact gas. Method involves the recovery of resin formed to dehydration process. The same resins (0.6-3.0 wt.-%) were added to the parental methylphenylcarbinol fraction purified of resins before dehydration. Resins show the following composition, wt. -%: ethylbenzene 2.1; styrene 0.08; α-methylstyrene 0.25; benzaldehyde 19.6; methylphenylcarbinol 5.56, and high-boiling impurities - the rest. Resins added at concentration above 3 wt.-% do not increase styrene yield. Dehydration is carried out at 320 C. As a result of resin processing the styrene yield is increased by 3.4%. EFFECT: increased yield of styrene. 5 tbl
