FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: styrene is produced by dehydrogenation of methylphenylcarbinol fraction containing up to 3 wt % of heavy residues, formed in propylene oxide-styrene production process, in presence of water steam on alumina-containing catalyst. Process is distinguished by being carried out through adding water steam and hydrogen-containing gas to original methylphenylcarbinol fraction at weight ratio (0.0004-0.001): (0.003-0.6):1, respectively, followed by preheating combined ingredients to reaction temperature before introducing them into catalytic zone. EFFECT: reduced (more than twice) water steam consumption. 1 dwg, 6 tbl, 6 ex
