FIELD: instrumentation. SUBSTANCE: radiation of source incorporated in measuring converter 1 interacting with measurement object converts measured value (for instance, thickness of coat) into radiation signal transformed into series of pulses which average frequency is their informative parameter. Linearization of nominal statistic characteristic of thickness gauge having exponential character with first degree spline allows measurement process to be organized in the form of cyclically repeating operations of subtraction, multiplication and comparison carried out correspondingly with the aid of subtracter 13, three multipliers 9, 10, 11 and digital comparator 14 without increase of number of calibration constants of spline coefficients set by means of master controls 16, 17, 18 as each following coefficient is generated from previous one by cycle multiplication by set coefficient which results in positive effect in the form of expanded measurement range. EFFECT: expanded measurement range thanks to organization of operation of thickness gauge by way of multiple repetition of one and same cycle of calculation based on approximation of statistic characteristic of thickness gauge with first degree spline. 2 dwg
