FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: produced in electric furnace semi-finished product with share of common carbon less than share of stoichiometric one by 0.3 - 5.0 %, is preliminary crushed and then carbonaceous material is added to it in amount, required for production of carbide of metal of given composition. Mixture is ground and then calcined under temperature of 1200 - 2200 C in vacuum of 10-10-3 mm Hg within 0.5 - 10 h. EFFECT: method is used in metallurgy.
