FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: chromium carbide is extracted by melting in an electric furnace, it contains 14.2% of common carbon, 0.9% of free carbon; 0.003% of oxygen and 0.03% of sulfur. Lump of carbide is subjected to fine crushing to a size of less than 5 mm, then - to a size of 1.0 mm. Chromium carbide is separated from soot and dried at 180 C. Production of semi-product with a content of common carbon exceeding the stoichiometric one by 0.1 to 4.0% makes it possible to simplify the process of batching, prevent formation of excicarbides and intermediate carbides. EFFECT: facilitated procedure.
