FIELD: automotive engineering. SUBSTANCE: rotary internal combustion engine has non-return valve located in inlet passage, inserts with radially shaped working surface, valves with control mechanism in the form of valve positioned between rotor and casing to form first and second working volumes. One of the inserts has two passages, whereas the other has only one. Working cylinder communicates with working volumes through inlet and outlet liquid passages and passages of the first insert. Inlet passage of the first insert has a non-return valve, whereas outlet passage has a controllable gate valve. The engine has a liquid-operated piston, and the working cylinder is partially filled with water serving as a working fluid. The volume of working fluid in the working cylinder is equal to the first working volume located between the inlet passage of the casing and working cylinder, and is smaller than the second working volume located between inlet passage of the working cylinder and casing. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency in operation.
