FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves converting a measured displacement into two interference signals shifted in phase by Π/2 with the aid of optronic converter, obtaining a third signal by inversion of one of the two signals, applying three electric signals to a resistive divider composed of n resistances, deriving n electric signals shifted in phase by Π/n from the divider outputs and forming 2n pulses for each interference order from n signals. Device for effecting the method has an interference converter, photodetector coupled with an electric circuit including a generator, two balanced mixers, resistive divider composed of 16 resistances, reversible counter, logic unit, indicator.
