FIELD: railroad transport. SUBSTANCE: moments of the start in reduction of pressure in the brake system line at the rate of at least service braking at either side of each train car or group of cars are determined. Discrepancy between these moments allows to establish the direction of brake system fault. The time of beginning of pressure reduction in brake system in this direction is determined for each next car or several cars until the discrepancy changes its sign to the opposite to indicate the car having a faulty pneumatic brake system.
