FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes casting a continuous hollow ingot followed by its stretching accompanied by rotation. The hollow ingot has its wall thickness equaling 1.2 - 1.35 side of the square section characteristic to the billet to be separated. At a definite distance from the metal surface of the mold the ingot is divided along its spiral into billets of square section which is performed through knurling a dividing groove right-angled at the top. The square billets are formed separated and straightened in the "on rib" position. EFFECT: higher quality, improved dimensional accuracy. 2 cl, 1 tbl
