FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method relates to metallurgy and may be used to make billets at curved-type continuous casting machines (CCM) to be rerolled at roll mills. Proposed method comprises forming ingot surface layer in crystalliser, drawing ingot from crystalliser, forming said ingot into cylindrical coil, separating billet from ingot and feeding billet formed into cylindrical coil into roll stand. Note here that curved ingot that passed the trajectory lowest point, at distance smaller than CCM metallurgical length, is reduced in roll stand for 5-15%, and, then, is shaped to cylindrical coil with core temperature approximating to solidus temperature. Now, ingot is placed into heat-insulating device for billet to be separated from ingot and transferred to roll mill. Note also that billet is fed into said roll mill after straightening cylindrical coil to straight billet.
EFFECT: reduced capital and operating costs, higher efficiency and quality.
