FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves cooling the slag, forming the size and shape of finished product particles on a layer of metal bodies moving in a rotary container. Height of the layer of metal bodies during their contact with slag is not less than 3 minimum sizes of the body. The container is rotated at 0.15-0.45 the critical speed. The relation of slag mass to mass of metal bodies in the container is maintained within 0.08-0.15. Slag processing installation comprises receiving chute, grating drum with horizontal axis of rotation, partly filled with metal bodies, a device for final cooling and discharge of finished product. The grating drum has a device mounted on one of its end walls for cooling the metal bodies. Said device has the form of a chamber with water-containing cells, communicating with the cavity of grating drum. The device for final cooling and discharge of finished product is made in the form of perforated cells moving in a closed volume and being capable of plunging periodically in water. Moving perforated cells may be housed in a truncated cone rotating concurrently with grating drum. Said cone merges into cylindrical shell with a hole in the center of its end wall, connected with an aspiration system. The truncated cone embraces the grating drum while cylindrical portion of shell houses an inclined tray extending from it through a central hole. Moving perforated cells may be mounted on an endless chain which is enclosed in a housing, and has a drive and a sprinkling and aspiration system, the lower part of the endless chain being submerged in water.
