FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: this method prescribes hardening and then double-tempering dies made of semi-heat-resisting steels, predominantly grade X12M, at temperature of 520 C. Further steps are grinding, final tempering in vacuum at same temperature and allowing dies to cool to point of at least 300 C. Disclosed method further prescribes that nitriding process be conducted in glow discharge conditions at surface temperature by 20 C higher than steel softening temperature. EFFECT: higher strength of steel dies.
